REFLECTIONS FROM WORLDLY WOMEN
What an honour for LunchBox List to again host Perth’s largest International Women’s Day celebration on Friday 6 March. This year we were joined by 650 business women and school girls all sharing in a very special day recognising women’s achievements and only made possible with the added assistance of our major partners Rio Tinto, The University of Western Australia, and principal partner The West Australian.
With both laughter and tears across the room in response to the amazing, courageous and awesome career and life journeys shared by our diverse group of speakers, it really was a day to feel proud of being a woman and acknowledging what as a group, we have achieved. Officially opened by Minister for Women’s Interest’s Robyn McSweeney MLC, she also shared a great piece of her own career advice: to achieve your goals, every decade write them down on a piece of paper and put them away into an envelope. Minister McSweeney says chances are you’ll surprise even yourself 10 years later!
Attendees say they also got excellent value from the pre-event careers expo, 14 organisations participating to promote their career and study opportunities for women including all five WA Universities, Rio Tinto, Challenger TAFE, Main Roads, WA Police, Australian Defence Force, Perth College of Beauty Therapy, Australian School of Tourism & Hospitality Management, Zonta Clubs of Perth and BPW – Business and Professional Women.
From one teacher : “The students were full of praise and extremely energised after listening to the high calibre speakers……we left in very high spirits and some girls went as far as to say it was the best outing they had ever been on”.
