FROM THE CEOS DESK
I opened this year’s Book of Lists from WA Business News – one of the state’s main sources of business news and information. I noted there was a double page spread on WA’s Most Influential. As the CEO of a business that focuses on career development for women in business I was more than interested to discover how many of our amazing WA women received a mention. I was very disappointed to see that out of the 46 selected for 2008 WA’s Most Influential – only 6 were women.

We agree with the selection of people like Fiona Stanley and Lisa Scaffidi but where was Sue Murphy – new CEO of the Water Corporation with 2,400 staff and the future of our state's water management – is she not a worthy member for inclusion as an opinion leader? What about Michelle Scott – Commissioner for Children and Young People surely as this state advances this is a pivotal role for WA's development and progress? Dr Liz Constable was selected but what about Sharyn O’Neill – Director General of Department of Education. Helen Cook – partner at KMPG and Chair of the Art Gallery of WA – surely she deserves a mention too. There are so many more.

In reality I am not that surprised women in WA only received 6 out of 46 mentions and some very significant women were omitted. LunchBox List was founded to provide much needed support and exposure for Women in Business and women with a message. The omission of many key women from this list proves yet again that LunchBox List is as relevant as ever in the need for a platform to promote women leading and setting the agenda in 2009. LunchBox List with our schedule in 2009, will continue to raise the profile of the accomplished women in this state of ours and we hope to have more of you join us to listen and learn from those women leaders in their field. Paula Rogers - CEO

FINAL THOUGHT
Reflecting this month on 100 years of a life well lived, Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, philanthropist and wife of media publisher Sir Keith Murdoch, provides a tip for us all, “Never give up learning” she says, “We must always go on learning mustn’t we?” So make 2009 your year to shine, be pro-active about your career, seek opportunities to learn and grow and we hope to see you at Women of Influence.

Regards
The LunchBox List team
