WHAT OUR LIST MEMBERS SAY...
“I love all the LunchBox List events and The Making of Me days but being a LISTmember gives it all a special edge. As a business consultant, the main focus of these events for me is networking. The learnings and the inspiration are fantastic but attending LISTmember special events gives me a great opportunity to meet some pretty remarkable Western Australian women, to share stories and experiences in an intimate setting that is always friendly and easy to move around in.”
Michelle McGrath, Simpatia
“Having only been a LISTmember for a few months... I have only fabulous things to say for its benefits to women in business! I have had the privilege to share stories with other women in similar positions to me... It’s a forum to discuss... share ... and be inspired, while making friends at the same time.... And then there is The LunchBox Party to end the year!”
Jane Le Grove, Frogmat Environmental
“I have been attending LunchBox List events since 2005 and have found them a great source of information while navigating my career. The addition of LISTmembership has been fantastic as the events bring together an amazing group of women with a wealth of experience who understand the benefit of sharing their stories. I have always left the member events uplifted and motivated with practical strategies or new contacts to benefit my career but more importantly a wise and wide network of women in business who you can assist or can assist you. I call it the essence of LunchBox and am really looking forward to the party too.”
Alexandra Sparvell, Engineers Australia

QUOTE OF THE WEEK...
"An entrepreneur's ability to dream big dreams, see opportunity around every corner and be future focused is a strength – EXCEPT for when it's not! In a market place that is tighter, clients are quickly changing strategy, which is affecting your pipeline and sales. Therefore it may be time to take stock and focus on some basics and stick to the “tried and tested” strategy that you know works. It may not shine, it's not new - but it is required to survive in this market place" - Pollyanna Lenkic.
We do hope you will think about becoming a LISTmember this month and join us in celebrating the year at The LunchBox Party as well as benefitting from being part of this new LunchBox initiative to help grow your career, confidence and circles of influence.
Kind regards,
THE LUNCHBOX TEAM

CEO UPDATE
As I write I am still on a high from last week’s Business of Communication – Making of Me day. Over 140 women attended and were inspired and educated by 12 fantastic women. Marathon swimming champion Shelley Taylor-Smith shared her personal story with us and highlighted the importance of ‘hanging with the right team’ and avoiding ‘dream takers’. Her story was both motivating and inspiring. We learnt the ABC of communication, how to develop Brand You, how to negotiate your next salary increase, the importance of creating key messages for you to promote and finally at the end of the day we put it all together and planned for the future with our own action plan for success.
I have been the CEO of LunchBox List events for six weeks now and this event was a true celebration of all that makes our company special and unique. We believe in advancing career development and support of women in WA. During the day I got to meet many of the attendees, I was delighted to hear positive feedback with words like:
‘Amazing; inspirational; a real support for my career; so glad I am attending for the whole day’. As we look to 2009 we plan to inspire and motivate you again and to those that have never attended we hope to welcome you on board!
Susan Fleming from Australian Institute of Management aptly summed it up when she said: ‘Women take what they get and men get what they want’. I hope that in 2009 more women will start getting what they want and we plan on delivering the developmental days, lunches and networking opportunities that will help progress you career – we hope you value the experience and for your diary our next Making of Me will be on 26 March 2009.

THE STATISTICS
On the 28 October The West Australian published the latest Equal Opportunity for Women in the workplace (EOWA) Report 2008 findings. We are constantly reminded to push our career paths yet this research has highlighted that women in Australia have actually lost ground in the workplace. The survey of the top 200 ASX companies illustrated that there are now just 10.7% women executive managers as compared with 12% in 2006. There are 10 men for every woman on boards, and at CEO level there were 49 males to every woman. The report found that women are earning 84 cents in the male dollar. Time and time again we are reminded that the fight still needs to be fought and women need to plan their career paths and not accept what they are given. Australia still lags behind US, Britain, South Africa and New Zealand.
We hope that www.lunchboxlist.com continues to provide much to help advance your career to new heights, and maybe a place to start is to become a LISTmember this month to grow your networks, business and other valuable opportunities with women like you.
Kind regards,
THE LUNCHBOX TEAM

SMELL THE ROSES
An article came our way recently about “stress management” and knowing how many of us feel stressed on a regular, even day-to-day basis we thought we would share it with you. A lecturer, explained stress management to a class by lifting a glass of water and asking: “How heavy is this glass of water?” A range of answers were returned but the lecturer answered - the weight is not the key thing it is the length of time you hold it that has the impact. If you have to hold it for a minute, no problem but if you have to hold it for a day then you are in trouble! It is the same with stress - if you do not take a break, the burden can become unbearable. Stop and smell the roses and you will find you have more energy to complete the tasks that need to be completed.
Thought for today: A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery while on a detour - Janet Lane.
With our final Making of Me day on next week and your next chance to benefit from one of these outstanding, motivating and inspiring days not until next March, we hope you will think about booking now. Or maybe encourage someone in your team who needs a career boost to think about joining us? With 98% of past attendees saying the day represented great value and 97% saying they would recommend the day to a colleague – do just that and help another woman in your team to benefit from The Business of Communication – increase confidence and communication skills as well as a truly inspiring day to meet other women like you, build contacts and share information. We hope you or someone you know can join us,
Kind regards,

Which event will you back?
Melbourne Cup Day has become ingrained in the Australian social calendar, renowned just as much for its indulgent celebrations and ladies finery as it is for the race on which it’s built. On Tuesday 4 November, Burswood Entertainment Complex brings Perth to the party with decadent events to rival Flemington.
Experience the race that stops the nation in style at Fabulously Flemington in the Grand Ballroom or the Pony Lounge in the Riverside Marquee. With celebrity hosts, spectacular fashion parades, a delectable lunch and, of course, a premium screening of the race, these are Perth’s hottest Melbourne Cup tickets – and they’re selling fast.
